Game Boy Advance Development using Xcode

Thursday, August 18, 2005

I recently picked up a Game Boy Advance, and loved it so much that I decided to learn how to program it. I had dabbled in 8-bit NES programming before, and learned first-hand that console development tools are seriously lacking on the Mac. If you choose to go this route, as opposed to just buying a Wintel PC and an official developer kit, you're going to run into quite a lot of problems. Unsupported toolchains, sparse documentation, Windows-only tools, etc.

There can't be more than 5 people in the world who do console development on the Mac, but for those who do (or want to), here is something that might make your life a little easier:

Download Game Boy Advance Xcode Project

This isn't like most normal Xcode projects. You're going to need to read the attached "Read Me" file to understand what is going on.

As always, this is completely free for any person, corporation, animal, plant, mineral, or other entity to use for any purpose, commercial or otherwise. I just ask that you at least tell me what you're using it for.

And just to be on the safe side: I am not in any way affiliated with Nintendo, or any of their partners or licensees. I am not an official Nintendo developer. If you are Nintendo and you have concerns about me posting this, then let me know and I will certainly cooperate.
